Equipment

Let's see... What did I have... Front to rear... (I obviously was not too concerned about packing lightly -- it was 100 pounds total, including bike and fanny pack...) This is from memory, so it might not be 100% complete...

EVERYTHING was in stuff sacks or double zip-lock bags. And I really did carry more than one of the things I thought important (like compass, lights, toothbrush, etc.).

A lot of times, I also carried an extra bottle of Gatorade, in addition to all my water. Meals for the day were usually just strapped on top of everything (along with the clothes that were drying from the day before). The low water mark for food and water was usually two or three bottles of liquid and a half dozen power and candy bars, plus maybe two or three more substantial snacks. High water mark would include over 10 pounds of groceries and drinks -- after we had divvied things up -- but this was usually only for a short trip to the campground, etc. Also, after a maildrop, we often had to ride with that much more again...
